King Edward VII School Library scoops ‘Joint Winner’ at Steel Awards 2013!

King Edward VII School New Library and Museum scooped the ‘Joint Winner: Refurbishment and Extension Award’ at the Steel Awards 2013 at Emperors Place on the 19 September.

The judges confirmed and quoted, ‘The end product is an amazing combination of magnificent existing brickwork and timber roof trusses, housing new steelwork for mezzanine floors, stairs and even IT stations out of steel, combined with shutter board timber flooring. The charm of the Edwardian shell and the need to unite both old world and modern boys allowed for the introduction of modern materials such as steel and glass.’

Further praise from the judges noted, ‘This is a beautiful example of a careful rework of a historic building giving it a new programme and lease on life. The architect’s enthusiasm for the project was also noted in seeking innovative ways of engaging with the technology in using simple means to achieve a beautifully crafted project.’
