King Edward Old Boy making strides in SA political arena!
30 January 2013King Edward VII School Old Boy Zak Mbhele (Class of 2002) is making strides in South Africa’s political arena. Zak currently holds the post of spokesperson in the Western Cape Premier’s Office!
As spokesperson/media officer Zak is the interface between the media and Helen Zille, in her capacity as Western Cape Premier. This King Edward Old Boy working within a very fast-paced environment has commented that he finds his position both rewarding and extremely challenging. When asked of his future aspirations, Zak replied he that in the foreseeable future, he would like to become a Member of Parliament (MP) for the DA in the 2014 general elections and serve two terms (i.e. 10 years) in the National Assembly.
Zak credits his current success to his schooling years at King Edward VII School. We quote his comments as such: ‘King Edward VII School’s brilliant standard of academic education laid the solid foundation for me to build on and I am especially grateful for the HJ Hofmeyr Bursary that I received at the end of Matric which made my tertiary studies that much easier on our family’s finances. It was the school that both taught and demonstrated to me one of the most valuable life lessons that I hold very dear: if you work hard to develop and apply your talents, the opportunities that come along your way, combined with your talents and hard work, will enable you reach heights and go to places far beyond what you could have ever imagined or thought possible for yourself.’
Certainly a shining example and role-model for all at King Edward to follow. The School and RED Community wish Zak further success into the future and as they say in the classics, ‘watch this space…!!’
